Combined enrollment in Medicare Advantage (MA) plans augmented by 1.151 million members between February 2011 and February 2012, as per a new report by Mark Farrah Associates (MFA). More than 13.3 million people were enrolled in Medicare Advantage plans as of February 2012. Enrollment inMedicare Advantage plans is mainly through two sources: direct purchase by individuals or from a retiree plan provided by an employer. Most MA plans saw enrollment increase during the most recent annual enrollment period, according to the report.
UnitedHealth maintained one of the top Medicare Advantage organizations in the country as of February 2012, but Humana, with an increase of more than 290,000 new MA members witnessed the largest increase from February 2011 to February 2012. United Health acquired about 231,000 members during the same timeframe. Kaiser Foundation Health Plan and WellPoint also experienced enrollment increase greater than 50,000 members. Kaiser Foundation Health Plans has the largest MA enrollment from group plans, with nearly 445,000 members from this source.
