How To Get Started With Medicare

If you are planning to use Medicare for your health insurance coverage after the age of 65,or before age 65 if you are disabled you should consider signing up for Medicare Parts A and B up to three months prior to turning 65. You can sign up for Part A and Part B through your local Social Security office. Or, if you want to enroll in Medicare Part D or a Medicare Advantage plan (also known as Part C) you can do so through the Medicare-approved private insurance company of your choice. You may only enroll during specific enrollment periods, unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period. Don’t put off enrolling in Medicare! Please be aware that if you don’t sign up for Part B or Part D when you are first eligible, you may have to pay a penalty when you enroll later.
