Medicare Advantage premiums are lower for 2012, enrollment is projected to rise

Medicare Advantage premiums are projected to be 4 percent lower in 2012, and enrollment is expected to go up 10 percent. This is according to an announcement made by the Department of Health and Human Services.

The Department of Health and Human Services also announced prescription drug premiums will not increase for 2012. Good news for the 900,000 Medicare beneficiaries who hit the prescription drug donut hole have received a 50 percent discount on their prescription drugs.

HHS also announced Medicare’s annual open enrollment, the time period during which people can choose to change plans or change from Medicare Advantage to Traditional Medicare, will begin earlier (on Oct. 15) and will last until Dec. 7, giving beneficiaries more time to review and make changes to their plans.
