The Medicare-Medicaid Data Match Program (Medi-Medi) is an initiative made by Center for Medicare advantage and Medicaid Services (CMS) to enhance the use and availability of better quality Medicaid data. The Medi-Medi program started as a pilot project with the State of California in 2001. Later nine other states tied up with the Medi-Medi program between 2003 and 2005.

The Medi-Medi program facilitates the involved State and Federal Government agencies to examine billing trends across the Medicare Plan and Medicaid programs and to spot possible fraud and misuse. The 16 States that now contribute in the Medi-Medi program account for more than half of total Medicaid spending. Contributing States consists of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Georgia, Florida, California, Texas, Colorado, Oklahoma, Utah, Iowa, Ohio, Mississippi, Missouri, and Arkansas.

CMS is making efforts to recognize ways in which the Medi-Medi program can be bettered and made more valuable to States. They are also discovering more options to team up with States as well as working directly with States to match Medicare Supplement and Medicaid data for specific mutual projects. The Automated Provider Screening and Fraud Prevention System with State Medicaid data will help in furthering partnership between Medicare and Medicaid.
